Job Summary

Missouri Western State University (MWSU) is now hiring Resident Assistants (RAs) for the Spring 2026 academic semester, beginning 1/12/2026 and ending 5/11/2026.

Resident Assistants live in the residence halls and serve as a leader, helper, and resource person for students through individual resident interactions, conflict mediation, and community building. Resident Assistants (RAs) should show the initiative to think critically and creatively to solve problems. RAs should be able to communicate with and relate to a diverse group of students to understand their individual needs and to help those students establish strong social networks and connect with appropriate campus resources.

Duties
  • Assist in the administrative operation of the building including opening and closing periods.
  • Attend and participate in training, staff meetings, and one‑on‑one’s with respective supervisor and training.
  • Document residential and university policy violations.
  • Develop community by education through the implementation of programs.
  • Create and maintain positive relationships with residents.
  • Front

    Desk Duties:

    Resident Assistants are expected to work up to 5 hours per week at the front desk of their assigned residence halls, split their time between primary responsibilities, general availability, staff selection, and training.
  • RAs must maintain open availability every Monday evening for training and staff meetings.
  • RAs are required to be present for all trainings with the department.
  • RAs should host open‑door hours, walk through their assigned building, and be available in lobby areas to respond to resident questions and concerns especially during evening hours.
  • Serve in a duty rotation (4:30 PM – 8 AM); typically every other week.
  • Serve in a weekend duty rotation: typically four (4) per semester.
  • Other duties as assigned by department Professional Staff.
  • This is not an exhaustive classification of staff time and is provided as a guideline, fluctuations and variations may occur as outlined by department Professional Staff.
  • RAs may be required to work when campus is closed and on holidays. These days are paid a daily rate of $50 for non-holidays during Fall, Winter, and Spring Break and $75 for holidays that include Thanksgiving Eve, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day.
Required Qualifications
  • Must be a MWSU full‑time student (minimum of 12 hours undergrad or 6 hours graduate), and no more than 18 hours per semester.
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative and semester GPA of 2.0 or above.
  • Must have completed at least one University/College semester (excluding summer, dual credit, and AP/IB).
  • Maintain good judicial and Residential Life standing.
  • Must be available to move in January 12, 2026 for training prior to the Spring semester.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Cumulative and semester GPA of 2.5 or above.
  • Completed two University/College semesters (excluding summer, dual credit, and AP/IB).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to maintain confidential information with tact and discretion.
  • Displays initiative to think critically and creatively to solve problems.
  • Ability to communicate with and relate to a diverse group of students to understand their individual needs and to help those students establish strong social networks as well as connect with the appropriate campus resources.
Physical Demands

Light Work:
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

  • RAs are required to live in residence hall during the term of their employment.
  • The RA position is to be considered first priority outside of school. An RA may be asked to choose between being an RA and outside employment, if the outside position interferes.
  • Final employment offer is contingent on a successful background check.
