City of St. George Fleet department has an amazing opportunity for a Master Technician to join our team! If you are looking to be a pillar of support to our Local Government, helping to maintain and service over 1,100 assets including Emergency Vehicles, Transit Buses, Trucks, Automobiles… everything big and small - we’ve got a place for you!

The Fleet Department currently employs 17 accomplished technicians and support staff to keep St. George running! Employees of the Fleet department receive paid training and education courses through Pierce Equipment, Cummins, Ford, GMC and many more industry leaders! The department provides paid testing through ASE to become ASE certified. As a shop, we have earned the ASE Blue Seal certification for over 17 years!

Our facility has state‑of‑the‑art diagnostic tools, equipment and software. We have a great work environment and excel at keeping a clean shop to work in! Fleet specific benefits include: paid uniforms and boot allowance, $1,200 year tool allowance, “new‑hire Master Tech incentive” bonus of $5,000 ($2,500 after 6 month probation requirements are met and $2,500 after the first year).

The technician work schedule is 4‑days a week with 10‑hour days from 6am-5pm. Position Summary

Under the direction of the Fleet Supervisor, diagnose, maintain and repair diesel, gasoline, and various other types of vehicles. This is skilled mechanical work for the City of St. George with an emphasis on Medium/Heavy Duty vehicles and equipment.

Essential Functions
  • Performs skilled mechanical work in diagnosis, repair, maintenance, and overhaul of a wide variety of both light and heavy construction equipment, including fire apparatus and police, water, power, sewer, and street maintenance equipment.
  • Repairs and services automobiles and light trucks, including major engine overhauls, adjustment of computer command controls, electronic ignitions, brakes, clutches, diesel engines, and transmissions.
  • Diagnoses drivetrain and exhaust after treatment components using sophisticated computer testing equipment. Performs adjustments or replaces defective parts as required.
  • Performs oxyacetylene and electronic welding as required. Fabricates specialized equipment. Lays out, cuts, and fits material for welding.
  • Performs state safety inspections.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of hydraulic systems, able to trace down problems with a hydraulic schematic.
  • Performs detailed repair notes on completed repairs for future repair order history, of parts and materials used for work orders.
  • Diagnoses equipment malfunctions to determine the most effective and economical means of repair. Makes decisions of what repairs will be made and completes all required work to achieve proper vehicle performance.
  • Performs preventive maintenance for all City equipment and vehicles such as lubrication, oil change, and minor repairs as needed.
  • Up‑fits various vehicles (police, fire, utility) that require extensive electrical and computer software knowledge and procedures.
  • Reads, diagnoses, and comprehends diagnostic tools using OBDII technology, including programmable logic systems, and installs and repairs such systems.
  • Understands, diagnoses, and repairs multiplex data systems using laptop computer technology.
  • Instructs, mentors, and assists with supervision of the on the job training of Journey Technician and Apprentice Technician.
  • May assist the shop supervisor in scheduling and supervision of Fleet Technicians when occasion arises.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
