The Clinical Nurse Specialist for Planned Surgery Screening and Triage Grade 2 is responsible for ensuring the documentation standard of the submitted ‘Recommendation for Admission’ form meets the requirements of the NSW Health Planned Surgery Access policy.
Key Responsibilities- Measuring and monitoring compliance of the “Recommendation for Admission” form
- Ensuring indicated clinical urgency categories reflect the recommendation from the waitlist policy directive
- Escalating any variation or departure from the clinical urgency category to the referring medical officers with the support of the Planned Surgery Waitlist Nurse Manager
- Preventing misclassifications of patients waiting times
- Reviewing patient’s past medical history and complexity of the proposed surgical procedure to provide guidance for pre‑admission assessment requirements to booking clerks
- Ensuring ‘Day Only’ target procedures meet LHD KPIs
- Up to 12 allocated days off each year (for full‑time employees) in addition to annual leave

- Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse (Division
1) with relevant post‑registration qualifications or at least 3 years’ experience in a clinical area, or equivalent experience deemed appropriate by a public hospital or health organisation - Demonstrated ability to manage complex clinical care and service delivery issues and problem‑solve through development and use of clinical management plans
- Demonstrated ability to exercise extended autonomy of decision‑making while working as part of a multidisciplinary team and apply professional and ethical boundaries when dealing with complex situations
- Demonstrated skills in development and facilitation of patient and carer education (and staff as required)
- Demonstrated high‑level written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and ability to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of harm minimisation and evidence of leadership in safety and quality innovation
- Demonstrated contribution to knowledge or practice/process improvements in nursing care, e.g. clinical pathways, policy, procedure or guidelines
- Demonstrated competence in the use of health‑related information technology
