Overview

RAM Aviation, Space & Defense is a leader in aerospace innovation, powering flight and space exploration with precision solenoids, valves, and actuators. Since 1975, we’ve supported missions like the Space Shuttle and continue to deliver mission-critical components for commercial, defense, and satellite systems. As one of Southern Utah’s largest employers, we drive economic growth and offer high-skilled careers in engineering and manufacturing.

From our advanced facility in St. George, we build the future of aerospace—on time, with excellence, and as a team. Join us to work on groundbreaking technology and help shape the future of flight and space exploration. Your career takes off here!

As a Deburr Technician
, you are the artisan of the machine shop. While CNC machines cut the metal, you provide the critical final touches that make the part flight-ready. In aerospace, a single microscopic metal fragment (burr) left on a part can cause a valve to fail in space. You will use microscopes, precision hand tools, and abrasive blasters to meticulously remove sharp edges and achieve flawless surface finishes.

This is a highly tactile, hands-on role that requires a perfectionist’s eye and incredibly steady hands. If you take pride in detailed craftsmanship and want to ensure the safety and reliability of mission-critical hardware, we want you on our team.

Responsibilities
  • Precision Micro-Deburring: Utilize a microscope to meticulously remove microscopic burrs and metal fragments. You will use a variety of fine hand tools including knives, scrapers, files, and motorized Dremel tools (ball cutters, reamers, and Cratex abrasives).
  • Surface Treatment & Blasting: Operate grit blasters using aluminum oxide media to remove burrs or uniformly coat parts. You will also operate speed lathes, tumble parts in vibrating hones, and use lapping paper or buffing wheels to meet strict surface finish requirements.
  • Specialized Assembly & Testing: Occasionally operate an injection machine using molten zinc to securely fuse two parts together. You will also pressure-test finished parts using oil, air, or nitrogen to ensure perfect seal integrity.
  • Quality & Measurement: Act as your own inspector. You will use precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, comparators, gauges) to verify that the machined and deburred parts meet exact blueprint specifications and tolerances.
  • Cleaning & Part Preservation: Protect the hardware. You will wash parts in mechanical washers and safely apply necessary chemicals, including mold releases, rust preventatives, Citra Safe, denatured alcohol, and 4USoap, to clean and preserve the metal.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Closely follow all written instructions, including traveler operations, deburr sheets, and direct guidance from your supervisor, to maintain strict aerospace traceability.
Pay

Pay: $18.50 per hour. After 90 days it goes to $19.00 per hour.

Qualifications
  • Legal: Must be able to pass a comprehensive criminal background check and drug screening.
  • ITAR: Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum (due to ITAR requirements).
  • Education & Experience: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent is required. Previous experience in deburring, metal finishing, jewelry making, auto-body detailing, or high-precision assembly is highly preferred but not required for candidates with excellent manual dexterity.
  • Technical

    Skills:

Ability to learn or currently possess the ability to read engineering blueprints and use precision measuring instruments.
  • Attention to Detail: A profound level of patience and focus. You must be comfortable performing highly repetitive, detail-oriented work while looking through a microscope for extended periods.
  • Safety Mindset: Ability to safely operate tools with moving parts, high pressures, and high speeds, as well as safely handle industrial cleaning agents and molten metals.
  • Physical Demands: Must be able to sit for extended periods while performing microscope work, and stand for extended periods while operating grit blasters or machinery. Must be able to lift and…
