This Special Topics in Economics course examines banking as an imperfectly competitive institution that creates liquidity, allocates credit, and manages risk within a market shaped by competition, information frictions, and strategic behavior. Topics include the effects of deposit insurance, capital requirements, and resolution regimes on system stability and incentives. Students will engage in interactive discussions, a core research project, and guest speaker sessions to apply economic tools to real-world financial decisions.

Estimated enrollment: 50 students.
Estimated TA support: 70 hours (contingent on enrollment and funding).

Minimum Qualifications- PhD in Economics
- Prior university‑level teaching experience in this course or a similar one
- Ability and experience teaching large classes
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching over four or more years
- Prepare and deliver lectures for the course
- Supervise teaching assistant(s) assigned to the course
- Prepare, supervise, and grade tests and examinations in accordance with University regulations
- Provide scheduled office hours for academic counseling of students
