Course description: An experience in multi-disciplinary engineering practice through a significant, open-ended, client-driven design project in which student teams address stakeholder needs through the use of a creative and iterative design process.
Number of Positions (est): 3 positions.
Estimated TA support: N/A
Estimated course enrolment: 95 students.
Schedule: One, 5-hour grading shift, Thursday, April 2, 2026
Dates of appointment: April 1 – April 30, 2026
Hours: 5 hours.
Salary: CUPE minimum salary rates are:
Writing Instructor 1 - $55.46/hr plus 4% vacation pay;
Writing Instructor 1 Long Term - $59.62/hr plus 4% vacation pay;
Writing Instructor 2 - $59.62/hr plus 6% vacation pay;
Writing Instructor 2 Long Term - $61.05/hr plus 6% vacation pay;
Writing Instructor 2 (priority) - $61.38/hr plus 6% vacation pay and Writing Instructor 2 (priority) Long Term- $62.82/hr plus 6% vacation pay. Should rates stipulated in the Collective Agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the Collective Agreement shall prevail.
Minimum Qualifications: include at least a Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline (such as, but not limited to, Communication, English, Engineering, Education, Technology Studies) with strong written and oral communication skills, and a demonstrated commitment to teaching communication and demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications: include a PhD in an appropriate discipline (as above), familiarity with engineering communication practices and/or training in second-language instruction at the university level and/or experience as an instructor in first year foundation course, Engineering Strategies and Practice. Also considered assets are experience in curriculum development, tutoring and/or working with a diverse group of students.
Description of duties: Working with the teaching team on evaluating the final Showcase presentations, which consist of a poster, prototype/proof-of-concept, and presentation/discussion. The team will meet immediately following the Showcase to benchmark and finalize grades and feedback (rubrics will be provided).
