Course Description

College and universities are among the most heavily regulated organizations. They are subject not only to common law liability (tort, contract, defamation, etc.), but also are closely regulated by both provincial and federal legislation applicable to business organizations, such as the laws regulating employment, as well as additional laws involving human rights. This course addresses all of these issues; academic freedom from both faculty and students is addressed as well.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Candidates must hold a doctorate in Higher Education or a related field
  • have a demonstrated record of scholarship in the field of Higher Education and Law
  • have practical experience related to the topic of the course in a post-secondary institution
  • and have teaching experience in the subject area of the course.

Prepare, organize, and lead this graduate half course; be available to students seeking assistance between classes; and evaluate student work and provide students with feedback.

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.

Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are covered by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement rather than the Unit 3 collective agreement, and should not apply for positions posted under the Unit 3 collective agreement.
