Position Summary

Facilitates communication between hearing and deaf or hard‑of‑hearing individuals in classrooms and meetings using American Sign Language or another manual sign system; serves as a liaison between deaf or hard‑of‑hearing students, hearing students, and instructors.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Interpret lectures, class discussions, campus events, and meetings using ASL.
  • Provide interpreting services in a variety of settings including classrooms, labs, tutoring sessions, and advising appointments.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Collaborate with faculty and Disability Services staff to ensure effective communication access.
  • Prepare for assignments by reviewing course materials as needed.

Position Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or higher preferred.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and knowledge of deaf culture.
  • RID certification preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience interpreting in educational settings preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

This is a part‑time, as‑needed position based on student schedules and college needs.
