The role uses category management, consumer insights and data analysis to drive new distribution, optimize merchandising, pricing and promotional mix, and grow market share and profitability.
Job SummaryThe Sr. Category Manager leads a team of up to 3 people and partners with Sales and Marketing to provide data‑driven insight and category strategy across all Home & Garden brands. Responsibilities include analyzing market research, syndicated and point‑of‑sale data, managing competitive intelligence, and developing planograms and merchandising tactics that align with business goals.
Responsibilities- Provide fact‑based information to senior management, brand and category managers from market research, syndicated data, POS data and competitive intelligence.
- Lead category management processes: data capture, analysis, planogram development and performance monitoring.
- Work autonomously and make decisions in collaboration with commercial business unit leaders.
- Design, create and manage reporting and insight tools using Scintilla/Luminate.
- Develop retailer strategies for product mix, shelf/display space, merchandising tools and price promotions.
- Conduct in‑depth customer data analysis covering new distribution, promotion trends, competitive dynamics, pricing and promotion effectiveness.
- Communicate competitive product, performance, and business trends; provide product recommendations to brand and category managers.
- Collaborate with sales on new product opportunities and feedback from sales representatives.
- Build market share and increase sales and profit while ensuring a safe work environment.
- Engineer seamless data solutions for Nielsen, IRI, and other external sources.
- Comply with company policies and procedures.
- Lead and develop direct reports through hiring, training, coaching, and performance management.
- Establish area plans, short/long‑term goals, and functional area infrastructure; set, implement and complete functional goals.
- Other duties as assigned.
- B.S. or B.A. required; 10+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience managing confidential syndicated data and analytics.
- Preferred background in category management, customer marketing or sales.
- Strong analytical, data interpretation, team and project management experience.
- Previous management experience required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel; experience with IRI or Nielsen.
- Knowledge of shelf planogram software (e.g., JDA, Apollo, Spaceman).
- Understanding of pricing mechanisms, elasticity, and promotion analysis.
Hybrid schedule:
Monday and Friday remote;
Tuesday‑Thursday in office.
