Overview
Planning Division Internship in the Community Development Department. This is a part-time, paid internship designed to provide exposure to fundamental planning and/or historic preservation principles for individuals seeking experience in the field. The internship is in-office and field-based and offers exposure to the planning profession. The internship schedule is flexible, up to approximately 280-300 hours total over the course of the summer.

- Assist the Planning Division in daily functions including but not limited to: building permit review, review of the zoning code and form-based codes, and data collection.
- Participate in pre-application and preliminary design discussions.
- Observe a professional planning staff and utilize information for professional development.
- Frequent progress updates on projects/ tasks to the City Planner will be required.
- Applicant must be pursuing, or have achieved, a degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, Construction Management, Historic Preservation, Social Sciences or related field.
- Knowledge of urban planning/historic preservation principles and practices.
- Excellent oral communication, interpersonal skills, and technical writing proficiency.
- Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously.
- Knowledge of computer software programs, which may include Microsoft Office, Internet applications, and Geographic Information Systems.
- Ideal candidate would be able to work both independently and within the team.
- A valid driver's license is required as field work will be essential to accomplish tasks.
Ability to work under generally safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to environmental factors such as temperature variations or extremes and wetness may cause discomfort and poses little risk of injury. Some travel between locations may be required.
