About The Role
The Survey / CAD Intern will primarily be based in St. Charles, MO, supporting the Survey team on heavy civil construction projects with a strong focus on CAD drafting and office-based survey support. This internship provides hands‑on experience developing survey drawings, processing field data, and assisting with quantity calculations. Students who are open to travel and occasional field work will have opportunities to gain additional exposure to construction staking and survey operations in the field.
Key Responsibilities- Primarily support CAD drafting for survey and construction projects using AutoCAD.
- Assist with processing and organizing survey data collected from the field.
- Prepare topographic surfaces, alignments, and basic construction layouts.
- Support quantity takeoffs and basic calculations as needed.
- Work closely with Surveyors and Project Managers to complete drafting and documentation tasks.
- Assist with survey‑related documentation, file management, and project records.
- Optional / as available:
Assist with construction staking, topographic surveys, and level loops for those open to field work and travel. - Optional / as available:
Gain exposure to survey equipment including GPS, Total Stations, and levels.
- Currently enrolled in a technical school or related program (surveying, civil engineering, or similar).
- Familiarity with AutoCAD or surveying equipment a plus.
- Ability to read basic construction plans.
- Strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and good communication skills.
- Valid driver's license.
- Primarily office-based work in St. Charles, MO.
- Occasional field work may involve outdoor conditions, varying weather, and construction site environments.
- When in the field, exposure to noise and construction hazards may occur; proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required and provided.
- Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.
- For optional field assignments: ability to stand, walk, and navigate construction sites.
- Ability to use hands and arms to operate office equipment and, when applicable, survey tools.
- Occasional lifting of materials up to 25 pounds with or without assistance.
