Position Summary

The Activities Coach is responsible for the planning and implementation of social, recreational, and educational programming to St. Louis Life residents in a manner that respects the clients’ needs and enhances their independence and dignity within their environment.

Specific Duties
  • Plans, implements, and modifies SLL resident social, recreational, and educational activities in cooperation with the Activities Staff Team, both within the SLL facility and the greater community.
  • Provides assistance, support, and supervision in the learning of residential skills including cooking, menu planning, banking, laundry, grocery shopping, purchasing of personal items and clothing, housekeeping, personal hygiene, recreation, time management, and other appropriate skills related to increased independent living as defined by resident’s annual goals.
  • Delivers all health‑related supports as necessary, including medications, for all residents while on duty.
  • Maintains an environment in which residents can discuss personal challenges, relationships, and needs in a timely manner.
  • Maintains consistency in all program areas by continuing good communication systems with other staff, especially lead staff, by using the agency’s case management system, email, etc.
  • Supports residents in decision making and self‑advocacy.
  • Documents support provided to residents and resident progress as part of the agency’s case management system as well as other data collection and evaluation systems.
  • Identifies potential Community Partners and resources to enhance the programming for SLL residents.
  • Serves as a liaison with assigned Community Partners to coordinate activities for SLL residents.
  • Participates in staff meetings.
  • Assists with agency‑related and resident‑related special events.
  • Serves on one agency‑related committees as assigned.
  • Represents St. Louis Life at various meetings, events, and collaborations.
  • Additional Duties (Optional)
  • Coordinates SLL’s health and wellness programming, including managing the related token system.
  • Leads the agency’s emergency planning efforts.
  • Coordinates agency volunteer and community service opportunities.
  • Education/Experience

    Bachelor’s Degree preferred in social work, education, human services, sociology, psychology, or closely related areas and a minimum of two years of professional experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

  • Ability to relate to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.
  • Effective planning skills with attention to details.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets, data management and cloud based materials.
  • Self‑directed but willing to work in a team oriented setting.
  • Understands and demonstrates ethical behavior and practices.
  • Familiarity with a behavioral approach to providing services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with others.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Creativity/Innovation.
  • Ability to focus on resident needs–Anticipate, understand, and respond to the needs of residents to meet or exceed their expectations within the organizational parameters.
  • Work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness.
  • Problem Solving–Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem.
  • Adaptability–Demonstrate a willingness to be flexible, versatile and/or tolerant in a changing work environment while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency.
