Who are we?

FSDB is a state public school available at no cost to eligible pre‑K and K‑12 students who are deaf or hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired or deaf‑blind, including boarding and transportation services. FSDB is nationally recognized for its comprehensive educational services, designed for the unique communication and accessibility needs of students. FSDB also provides educational outreach programs for children ages 0‑5 and their families.

How you will make an impact

The incumbent of this position serves as the Coordinator/Dispatcher for the Off‑Campus Classes (OCC) and Work Program in addition to serving as the department liaison/communication coordinator to all schools and boarding programs for reporting and resolving day bus discipline reports or issues.

  • Supervises and monitors student behavior on FSDB school buses and documents positive and negative behavior through the use of Incident Reports, and Transportation Reports, etc. and incorporate these reports into the behavior management systems. Utilizes established policies and procedures to ensure that the educational needs, social needs, and safety of the students are met. Communicates with schools and dorms as needed on resolution of discipline referrals or other behavior issues.
  • Manages state vehicle requests and assigns fleet accordingly; conducts monthly usage analysis on each unit to determine its utilization and schedules units to maximize use. Coordinates staff driver's license verification using the DAVID System and serves as the lead user; maintains documentation audit log and program procedures. Transport student luggage from dormitories to bus loading area per student home going.
  • Coordinates the OCC and work program; schedules routes, assigns drivers, maintains student attendance and communication with schools and work program supervisors.
  • Performs other related Transportation Department duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Transportation or his/her designee. This includes, but not limited to, monitoring student behavior, communicate with parents (both thru mailing and by phone), maintain and updating Day Bus Route Books, receive and issue Transportation Authorizations on student bus changes and receive and assign vehicle and bus transportation request.
  • Serves as the primary back‑up for the Day Bus Coordinator, Public Transportation Specialist, and the Public Transportation Coordinator (SHOW).
  • Develops and presents chaperone training topics for both FTE and OPS Staff; conducts annual chaperone school bus evacuations and dexterity tests for current staff and applicants.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to verbally communicate by use of a cellular phone/radio;
  • Knowledge of the techniques and methods for helping others;
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills including the use of e‑mail and Microsoft applications;
  • Ability to work a varied shift including weekends and evenings;
  • Ability to account for and keep track of assigned students;
  • Ability to visually track the activities of students;
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, staff and co‑workers;

  • Ability to communicate utilizing basic sighted techniques and/or expressive/receptive communication skills;
  • Ability to administer medications under supervision;
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments;
  • Ability to prepare reports;
  • Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of work constantly to move objects;
