The Gift Shop Sales Associate works under the direction of the Operations Manager to aid in all Gift Shop retail locations' customer activities and sales. The Associate is responsible for customer-facing interactions and merchandise transactions, with a focus on building lasting customer relationships. This person is also an ambassador for guests visiting the Shrine and hiking on the First Coast Camino, assisting with general questions and guidance.
The Associate assists and promotes the rich history, culture, and religious significance of the National Shrine & Mission and the community of the faithful, where people gather for spiritual devotion and pilgrimage.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Serves in the main Shrine gift shop, Kiosk, or other designated satellite locations as required.
- Greets customers and assists them with finding desired merchandise.
- Answers telephone calls to the gift shop.
- Conducts transactions in the Counterpoint retail system.
- Restocks and reorders shelves for an orderly appearance.
- Complies with established security, sales, and recordkeeping procedures and practices.
- Assists with periodic and annual inventory audits.
- Monitors inventory levels and documents shortages in the Suggested Purchase Order (SPO) book.
- Promotes a team environment and assists with training new sales associates.
- Maintains a neat, clean, and organized shop appearance with periodic dusting and sweeping.
- Be a model of professional behavior and the Catholic faith.
- Performs other duties as required by the Operations Manager.
- Works weekends and nights to support operational demands.
- The ability to respect, promote, accommodate, and not be in conflict with the mission, moral and social teachings, doctrines, and laws of the Roman Catholic faith.
- A High School degree or equivalent.
- Preferred:
One (1) year of experience in retail sales operations and customer service experience. - This role requires a proactive, charismatic, detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced retail environment.

- Must successfully pass the required criminal background check prior to employment and must maintain this clearance throughout employment.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, vendors, employees, and the public.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
