The Estimating & Project Management Manager will be responsible for leading our estimation department and directly managing larger projects to ensure timeliness, accuracy and competitiveness on project quotes. The Manager will oversee the daily estimating department operations, support pricing strategy and cost analysis, and drive process improvements. The Manager will also be responsible for driving improved quote close rates.
Primary Responsibilities- Track and manage the close‑rate of estimates prepared by the department and work closely with the sales team to achieve close‑rate (and profitability) targets
- Develop and deploy pricing methodologies, frameworks and tools to improve speed and accuracy of costs, working closely with operations to understand cost drivers
- Ensure consistency between ‘book’ pricing and custom pricing and lead efforts to reconcile pricing discrepancies at the category level
- Manage pipeline of incoming quotes and ensure timely completion
- Provide mentorship and guidance to the estimating team to ensure consistency and accuracy, and review larger quotes before release
- Execute estimate directly (complex or high‑value or when needed for capacity)
- Provide direct technical support to customers as needed
- Manage the project workflow for larger projects from quote to shipment, ensuring a timely information exchange, especially drawing approvals
- Review drawings for all projects going through the fabrication department before release for production
- Collect and organize competitor pricing information and leverage it as a tool in developing pricing
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in Engineering
- 5+ years’ experience in estimating with demonstrated commercial construction knowledge; metal fabrication and manufacturing experience preferred
- Deep understanding of estimating methodologies, techniques, and best practices
- Ability to assess project feasibility and profitability
- Ability to perform complex business calculations for estimates, costing models, margins, time studies and production metrics
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for cross‑departmental collaboration
- Strong leadership and team management skills, including the ability to mentor and develop estimating staff
- High degree of organization and time management, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
