Assistant Director, Residence

The Assistant Director for Residence Life is responsible for overseeing the residential student experience and streamlining residential curriculum through programming and initiatives. The Assistant Director shall oversee the planning, development, and implementation of curricular functions of the campus housing environment. The Assistant Director will also work in conjunction with the Director on the hiring, training, development, and supervision of the student staff (LRAs and RAs) in the Office of Residence Life.

The Assistant Director will also serve as the primary advisor for RHA.

The Assistant Director for Residence Life is a full‑time professional live‑in position within the Division of Student Affairs. The Assistant Director facilitates the educational aspects of residence life to ensure students live within a living experience that promotes holistic learning, development, and critical thinking. The successful candidate will serve as a leadership figure and role model to students.

• Uphold the Flagler College mission and vision and support the implementation of the campus‑wide and student affairs strategic plans focused on fostering a welcoming and supportive learning environment for all students.
• Works with campus partners on establishing and sustaining Living Learning Communities.
• Assists with room changes in consultation with the Director of Residence Life.
• Serve on an on‑call rotation.
• Work with internal partners including, but not limited to Safety and Security, Campus Excellence and Engagement, Marketing and Communications, Student Engagement and Leadership, and Career Development.
• Serve on campus committees as appropriate.
• During a natural disaster, remain on‑campus or at a designated shelter to assist with operations and clean‑up.
• Assist with administration duties including, but not limited to filing, answering emails in the Department email account, organizing, cleaning, etc.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

• Focuses on relationship building and student interaction on a daily basis with on‑campus residents.
• Serves as a visible and accessible resource in the residence hall community for student interaction.
• Develop, run and analyze reports relating to student satisfaction.
• Develops and implements residential curriculum rooted in best practices in Higher Education and Residence Life.
• Create partnerships with faculty members, departments, and key offices across campus to develop co‑curricular initiatives and advocate for student holistic learning and development.
• Provides support and resources for students living on campus, and referrals when appropriate.
• Coordinate roommate conflict mediations.

• Assists hall staff in promoting an engaging, safe, conducive to studying, and well‑maintained environment.
• Works with student staff to implement the residential curriculum through their programming.
• Develops monthly professional development for the Office of Residence Life full‑time and student staff.
• Develops and implements student staff training throughout the academic year to cover topics for on and off‑campus partners, involves best practices in the field, and fully prepares student staff for their roles as RAs.
• Oversees the RA hiring process in the Fall semester.
• Supervises student staff (LRAs and RAs).
