ASARCO LLC is a subsidiary of one of the world's largest Copper producers Grupo Mexico and ranks third in the United States in Copper production. ASARCO LLC is a fully integrated miner, smelter, and refinery of copper in the United States with over 2,800 employees spanning 4 mine sites in Arizona.
POSITION OVERVIEW
We are looking for motivated students with a strong interest in the mining industry. Our internship program is 10 weeks long, in which you will receive important industry training and get involved in meaningful real-world projects like planning a program, designing a process, or implementing technology. The culmination of your program will include an opportunity to present your work to management at ASARCO & Grupo Mexico.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Establish maintenance process mapping around critical equipment.
- Assist with inventory management.
- Build electronic files of drawings.
- Build electronic files of maintenance manuals.
- Work with AutoCAD updating as-built construction and/or plant drawings.
- Work with the Project Managers/Engineers as they oversee project design and implementation.
- Research specific assigned items pertaining to ongoing plant operations.
- Make presentations to in-house engineering and management groups as required.
- Evaluate assigned field problems (real or theoretical) and report back as required.
- Meet everyday safety goals.
- Various other projects as assigned.
- Responsible for executing, supporting, and enforcing the Company's Environmental, Health and Safety program as required by OIS policy, directives, and principles.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal abilities.
- Time management skills in performing multiple projects with various team members.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively present findings and make recommendations.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products.

- Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university on a full-time basis.
- Must be a Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Graduate level.
- Must be majoring in Mechanical Engineering or closely related Engineering discipline.
Frequent sitting, standing, walking and some exposure to dust, noise, and extreme temperatures* (
* not for all majors)
Duration:Requires at least a ten-week internship commitment between mid-May and mid-August.
