This position provides leadership, direction, and feedback to the care team, conducting assessments, collaborating and coordinating patient care plans, educating patients and families, managing pain, ensuring patient safety, and planning discharge to ensure safe and effective hospital stays.
Responsibilities- Supports the organization’s patient flow efforts by complying with unit and Patient Services policies.
- Remains flexible to cooperate with 24‑hour staffing patterns and scheduling needs across all inpatient units.
- Communicates with patients and families in a professional, therapeutic, and courteous manner.
- Provides comprehensive clinical and social contact with patients, assessing, caring for, and treating them according to Covenant Health Care guidelines.
- Performs assessment and synthesizes data collected by self and others in an ongoing, systematic manner, focusing on the patient’s physiologic, psychologic, and cognitive status.
- Formulates and coordinates a goal‑directed plan of care prioritised on nursing diagnoses and patient care concerns.
- Delegates, supervises, and implements care consistently and continuously, adhering to established standards.
- Collaborates effectively with all health‑care disciplines to facilitate outcomes, assess readiness for discharge, and anticipate discharge needs.
- Identifies patient learning needs and ability to follow instructions, implementing measures to meet these needs.
- Exhibits nursing judgement and critical‑thinking abilities within the nursing process framework.
- Administers medications per Patient Service guidelines and policies.
- Documents all care observations and interventions accurately, clearly, and timely in the electronic record per policy.
- Actively participates in quality management activities.
- Updates and maintains knowledge, skills, and competencies related to the area of practice and patient age groups.
- Demonstrates awareness of legal issues, maintains patient rights and confidentiality, and supports risk management activities.
- Participates in patient care and unit activities to comply with regulatory, patient‑safety, infection‑control, and safety requirements.
- Participates in unit meetings and activities supporting unit function and overall organisational goals.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education / Experience
- Graduated from an NLN accredited school of nursing.
- Registered Nurse with current licensure in Michigan.
- BLS certification required.
- Attends unit conferences, in‑service programs, and continuing education to meet expectations.
- Minimum of one year of acute‑care nursing experience preferred.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Computer competency, including Microsoft Office and Outlook.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well with the public and remain tactful in hectic, stressful situations.
- Clinical nursing skills.
- Sound judgement in handling confidential or sensitive issues and material.
Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA, and federal, state, and local standards.
Constant standing and walking.
Frequent lifting up to 25 lbs.
Frequent sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, twisting, reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, near vision, midrange vision, far vision, depth perception, visual accommodation, color vision, and field of vision.
Occasional lifting up to 100 lbs.
Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and squatting.
