Registered Nurse RN - Float Pool
My Michigan Health is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for its Float Pool. The position offers up to a $14,000 sign‑on bonus for qualified candidates.
SummaryThis role performs a variety of integrated neurological/neurosurgical and trauma critical care functions, utilizing the nursing process and broad nursing knowledge in a caring manner. The position requires travel among My Michigan Health subsidiaries.
Casual employees have no regularly scheduled work hours but must fulfill a minimum time commitment: at least 48 hours per month, including 24 hours on weekends and an annual requirement of 24 hours on holidays.
Responsibilities- Assess patient for physical, emotional, psych/social and family support. (25%)
- Organize and coordinate all aspects of patient care according to the patient’s real and/or perceived needs. (25%)
- Evaluate patient progress by correlating patient information with nursing knowledge to determine if goals are being met according to the patient’s plan of care or clinical path. (25%)
- Consult and collaborate with members of the healthcare team in planning and implementing total patient care for individuals. (25%)
- Demonstrate proficiency in nursing skills to carry out the patient’s plan of care according to unit policy and procedure.
- Communicate interactions, both verbal and written, that clearly and positively accomplish desired patient care as a collaborative effort.
- Educate patients and families.
- Provide teaching, support and coordination of health care plans for patients and families through the acute phase of illness.
- Promote clinical knowledge development, including critical thinking skills and improve strategies for clinical judgment through research and continuing education.
- RN:
Registered Nurse. - BLS:
Basic Life Support (within 1 month of hire or transfer). - TEAM ADVANCED:
Techniques for Effective Aggression Management (within 6 months of hire or transfer; employees on or before 8/1/2024 have 24 months to complete).
Associate’s degree in Nursing required;
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Completion of orientation process and required competencies.
- Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups.
- Competency in Microsoft® Windows.
- Recommend and prefer completion of TCAR (Trauma Care After Resuscitation) class.
- Exposure to stressful situations, including public contact, trauma, grief and death.
- Must wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitutes.
- Ability to wander freely around the facility with or without an assisted device and perform job functions as described.
- Vision and hearing required, with or without assisted devices.
- Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods; may require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
- Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other infectious materials; must follow My Michigan Health blood borne pathogen and TB testing.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, maintain attendance, and stay alert.
- Overall dexterity required for handling, reaching, grasping.
- Physical demand: lift or carry 21‑50 lb. 0–33 % of workday; 20 lb. 34–66 % of workday; 10 lb. 67–100 % of workday.
