PROGRESSIVE CARDIAC CARE RN (C 3M/N) – Covenant Health Care, Saginaw, MI
OverviewThe Registered Nurse leads, directs, and provides feedback to care team members, assessing, collaborating, and coordinating patient care plans, education, pain management, patient safety, and discharge planning. This role ensures patients move safely and effectively through their hospital stay while demonstrating excellent customer service aligned with Covenant Health Care’s values.
Responsibilities- Participate in cost containment by efficient use of supplies, services, and time management.
- Support patient flow efforts by complying with unit and Patient Services policies.
- Maintain flexibility to accommodate 24‑hour staffing patterns and scheduling needs.
- Communicate with patients and families professionally, therapeutically, and courteously.
- Provide pre‑operative cardiac surgery care, assess and monitor patients pre‑ and post‑stress test.
- Monitor ECG readings and notify providers as appropriate.
- Keep physicians informed of patient changes and contact them with concerns.
- Comply with medical provider orders, administer and monitor intravenous drips.
- Modify patient care plans based on patient responses.
- Educate patients and families on maintaining or improving cardiac and overall health.
- Assist patients with postoperative recovery and collaborate with the health‑care team during emergency situations.
- Answer patient health questions regarding nutrition, exercise, and related topics.
- Assess patient physical, psychological, and cognitive status; synthesize data for ongoing care.
- Delegate, supervise, and implement care consistently, adhering to standards.
- Collaborate with all health‑care disciplines to facilitate outcomes, assess discharge readiness, and anticipate needs.
- Identify patient learning needs, ensure follow‑through on discharge instructions, and implement support measures.
- Exhibit nursing judgement and critical thinking within the nursing process framework.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies following American Heart Association Guidelines.
- Collaborate with medical and advanced practice providers to deliver evidence‑based care.
- Administer medications per Patient Service guidelines and policies.
- Document all patient care observations and interventions accurately, clearly, and timely in the electronic record.
- Provide appropriate hand‑off communication when transferring care.
- Mentor and pre‑cept nursing students, interns, and new hires as appropriate.
- Update electronic medical records per agency policy.
- Participate in quality management and regulatory compliance, patient safety, infection control, and safety requirements.
- Attend unit meetings and activities that support unit function and organizational goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Graduated from an NLN accredited nursing school.
- Registered Nurse with current licensure in Michigan.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Minimum of one year acute‑care nursing experience preferred.
- Participation in unit conferences, continuing education, and in‑service programs as required.
- Computer competency, including Microsoft Office and Outlook.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well with the public and remain tactful in hectic, stressful situations.
- Clinical nursing skills.
- Sound judgement when handling confidential or sensitive issues.
- Regular, punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other standards.
- Constant standing and walking; frequent lifting up to 25 lbs.; occasional lifting up to 100 lbs.
- Frequent sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, twisting, reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, near vision, mid‑range vision, far vision, depth perception, visual accommodation, color vision, and field of vision.
- Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and squatting.
