Overview
The Registered Nurse – OB Postpartum (H
3) at Covenant Health Care provides leadership, direction and feedback to the care team, assesses patient needs, collaborates across disciplines to coordinate the plan of care, educates patients and families, manages pain, ensures patient safety, and plans for safe discharge. This position assists patients to move safely and effectively through their hospital stay while demonstrating excellent customer service consistent with Covenant Health Care’s Vision, Mission and Values.
- Supports patient flow through compliance with unit and Patient Services policies.
- Maintains flexibility to meet 24‑hour staffing patterns and scheduling needs.
- Communicates with patients and families in a professional, therapeutic and courteous manner.
- Assesses, cares for and treats patients of all age groups in accordance with Covenant Health Care guidelines.
- Performs assessment and synthesizes data collected by self and others, focusing on physiological, psychological and cognitive status.
- Formulates and coordinates a goal‑directed plan of care, prioritizing nursing diagnoses and patient concerns.
- Delegates, supervises and implements care by adherence to standards that define the nursing process.
- Collaborates effectively with all health care disciplines to facilitate patient outcomes, assess readiness for discharge and anticipate discharge needs.
- Identifies patient learning needs and implements appropriate measures to meet these needs.
- Exhibits nursing judgment and critical thinking within the nursing process framework.
- Administers medications per Patient Service guidelines and policies.
- Documents all patient care observations and interventions accurately, clearly and timely in the electronic record per established policies.
- Actively participates in quality management and maintains knowledge, skills and competencies related to area of practice.
- Demonstrates awareness of legal issues, maintains patient rights and confidentiality, and supports risk management activities.
- Participates in unit activities to achieve compliance with all regulatory, patient safety, infection control and safety requirements.
- Participates in unit meetings and activities supporting unit function and overall goals.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications- Graduate of an NLN accredited school of nursing.
- Registered Nurse with current licensure in Michigan.
- BLS certification required.
- Minimum of one year of acute care nursing experience preferred.
- Computer competency with Microsoft Office and Outlook.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well with the public and remain tactful in hectic and stressful situations.
- Clinical nursing skills and sound judgment in handling confidential or sensitive issues.
- Maintains regular, punctual attendance per ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
- Constant standing, walking, lifting up to 25 lbs., frequent sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, twisting, reaching.
- Occasional lifting up to 100 lbs., climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and squatting.
