Works under the supervision of the Med-Surg Nurse Manager. The Staff RN assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and supervises individual patient care on the nursing unit according to established policies, procedures and guidelines. Accepts responsibility for the direction of co‑workers in the implementation of the patients plan of care. Performs other duties as assigned.

• Provides nursing care using the Nursing Process by completing nursing assessment, documenting, developing plan of care, implementing and documenting.
• Evaluates patients’ response to care and updates plan of care.
• Oversees delegation of specifics of patient plan of care to unit staff.

• Engages in patient/family teaching as appropriate.
• Maintains professional standards by participating in educational opportunities and Performance Improvement activities.
• Communicates with the Health Care Team.
• Adheres to unit/department budgetary practices.

• Credential: RN – Registered Nurse (Essential: true)
• Credential: BLS – Basic Life Support (Essential: true). Equivalent
  
  Experience:
  
  Within 1 month of hire or transfer. Qualification Source: AHA.
• Credential: TEAM ADVANCED – Techniques for Effective Aggression Management (Essential: true). Equivalent
  
  Experience:
  
  Within 6 months of hire or transfer (Employees who are in this position on or before 8/1/2024 will have 24 months to complete this certification).

• Education:
  
  ASSOC – Associate’s degree in nursing required, Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred. (Essential: true)

• Experience:
  
  Two years general Medical‑Surgical/Charge Nurse experience required.
• Skills:
  
  Good basic clinical skills in delivering care in an acute care facility.

  Good interpersonal skills in dealing with patients, families and co‑workers.

• Exposure to stressful situations including public contact, trauma, grief and death.
• Able to wear personal protective equipment including latex materials as required.
• Can move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and perform job functions.
• Overall vision and hearing required with or without assisted devices.
• Frequently required to sit, stand, walk and perform postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
• Some exposure to blood‑borne pathogens; must follow My Michigan Health blood‑borne pathogen and TB testing.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, maintain regular and predictable attendance, and stay awake.
• Dexterity required for handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling; may require repetitive movements.
• Physical Demand Level: Medium. Must occasionally lift or carry 21‑50 lbs., frequently 20 lbs., and constantly 10 lbs.
