Nursing Assistant- Student Resource

Job Summary

This position is for students that are currently enrolled in an accredited nurse program and have completed one clinical semester. The role works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. The Nursing Assistant - Student Resource performs and assists with the individual activities of daily living as well as treatments for patient care under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse according to established policies, procedures, and guidelines.

• (50%) Under the direction of the nurse, prioritizes and organizes care of assigned patients, performing basic nurse's aide skills as outlined in orientation, competencies, policies, and procedures.
• (25%) Documents on patient's chart any treatments and pertinent observations as directed by the RN. Provides report to team on tasks completed. Immediately communicates significant information to the RN such as changes in the patient's behavior or condition. Follows emergency procedures in the event of any emergency situation such as accident, injury, or significant change in the patient's condition.
• (25%) Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly work environment. Maintains a high level of confidentiality. Remains awake, alert, calm, and professional.
• Does NOT take independent action(s) with patients. Tasks must be directed or approved by the RN.
• Other duties as assigned by the RN or management leader.

  Within 1 month of hire or transfer.
• Preferred Experience: Successful completion of one semester of nursing clinical education by an accredited Registered Nurse Program. Holds a current State of Michigan registry document as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification culminating in licensure, Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification, or equivalent Medical Assistant credentials.

• Exposure to stressful situations, public contact, trauma, grief, and death.
• Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex or appropriate substitutes.
• Must be able to move freely about the facility with or without an assisted device and perform the functions of the job as outlined.
• Overall vision and hearing are necessary, with or without assisted devices.
• Frequently required to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time and may require stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
• Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials. Must follow blood borne pathogen and TB testing as required.
• Must handle multiple tasks, work independently, maintain regular attendance, and stay awake.
• Physical Demand Level: Medium. Must lift or carry 21–50 lbs. occasionally (0–33% of the workday), 20–30 lbs. frequently (34–66% of the workday), and 10–15 lbs. up to 100% of the workday.
