Overview

The Clinical Medical Assistant will provide both clinical-contact and administrative support to providers, other health‑care professionals, and patients. The role requires flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to perform multiple duties at multiple office locations within the same shift. Primary clinical duties include completing vital screenings, recording patient personal information and medical history. Primary administrative duties include verifying patient insurance coverage, answering telephones and scheduling appointments, and collecting co‑payments upon completion of patient visits while adhering to confidentiality standards.

Responsibilities

Clinical
  • Prepares patients for examinations by taking and recording vital signs, updating medical records, and recording details regarding the reason for visit.
  • Assists providers during examinations as needed.
  • Answers phones, refills medications, and performs other required administrative duties.
  • Performs basic clinical procedures and collects/prepares laboratory specimens.
  • Assists with office referrals and prior authorizations.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate patient medical records.
  • Performs pre‑charting as needed.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work environment throughout the day.
  • Adheres to all HIPAA regulations and maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Follows infection‑control protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Administers affiliative medications and injections as ordered by the provider per Covenant Health Care policies and procedures and regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinates x‑rays, ultrasounds, labs, EKGs, etc., as ordered by the provider per Covenant Health Care policies and procedures.
  • Sterilizes medical equipment and disposes of contaminated supplies in appropriate disposal containers.
  • Maintains inventory of medical and/or office supplies within budgetary constraints.
  • Participates in staff meetings

    Homes, in‑service programs, and continuing‑തിന education activities as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and/or varies based on medical specialty.
Clerical
  • Verifies patient demographics and insurance information.
  • Maintains an accurate schedule for all physicians and APPs.
  • Collects co‑payments and other applicable fees.
  • Manages accuracy, discrepancies, and reconciliation of patient fees (cash, checks) received.
  • Answers and directs phone calls promptly and efficiently.
  • Schedules patient appointments and triages calls appropriately per Covenant Health Care policy and procedure.
  • Manages incoming and outgoing faxes, assists with administrative tasks such as filing, photocopying, and data entry.
  • Assists объекта with office referrals and prior authorizations.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate patient medical records.
  • Maintains a clean and organized reception area.
  • Maintains inventory of medical and/or office supplies within budgetary constraints.
  • Follows regulations regarding narcotic storage and maintains medical inventory log, ensuring medications have not expired.
  • Participates in staff meetings, in‑service programs, and continuing‑education activities as necessary.
  • Follows infection‑control protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Adheres to all HIPAA regulations and maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Processes/tracks medical release‑of‑information requests consistent with HIPAA and other requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and/or varies based onაძლ medical specialty.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma and/or equivalent required.
  • Successful completion of a competency‑based Medical Assistant (MA) training program required, OR one (1) year of experience in clinical Gorge patient‑care and/or medical (administrative patient support) required.
  • BLS certification required within six (6) months as a new hire or internal transfer.
