Overview
This position performs Cardiac Ultrasound on all inpatients and outpatients. An Ultrasound Technologist is a Diagnostic Ultrasound Professional qualified by credentialing, academic and clinical experience to provide diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures. The Cardiac Sonographer is responsible for daily operations of the lab, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, reporting equipment failures, and quality improvement (QI). The sonographer maintains professional ethics and pursues lifelong learning to increase knowledge of the field, diseases and new procedures as they evolve.
Responsibilities- 50% Performs Cardiac Sonographer core procedures, including transthoracic echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiography, and stress echocardiography, with and without contrast. Performs diagnostic sonography examinations according to defined imaging protocols for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
- 50% Analyze sonograms, synthesize sonographic information and medical history, and communicate findings to the appropriate physician. Prepare equipment for ordered exams; transport patients as needed; explain procedures to patients; perform exams; record exams; consult with physicians/providers as needed. Perform accurate pre- and post-processing of files and reports. Accurately utilize computer systems and programs specific to Cardiovascular Services.
- Other duties and responsibilities: record all patient data appropriately; utilize IV Optison contrast and/or agitated saline as required per protocols; monitor patient condition throughout procedures; participate in obtaining and/or maintaining ultrasound lab accreditation; maintain ultrasound equipment and work area and supplies; provide excellent customer service; demonstrate professionalism and courtesy toward all customers and staff.
- Cooperate with other personnel to achieve departmental and hospital goals; attend/participate in departmental and hospital meetings; perform other work-related duties as assigned including assisting in other areas of the department as needed.
- Demonstrate competency in Microsoft Windows; participate in further learning opportunities as required by My Michigan Health.

Basic Life Support - Equivalent

Experience:
Degree in Healthcare Related Field. Bachelor of Science preferred. Minimum two (2) years of experience in sonography preferred. Employees hired before 2010 exempt from the associate degree requirement but must meet the requirements. - Education Specialization: SONOGRAPHY

- Current compliance with Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements and ARDMS/CCI re-credentialing yearly to maintain active registrant status.
- Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with individuals and groups at all levels, in person and by phone.
- Physical/Mental Requirements: Exposure to stressful situations, including trauma, grief and death; ability to wear PPE (latex or substitutes if required); able to move about the facility; adequate vision and hearing; ability to sit/stand/walk for long periods; frequent postural changes; exposure to blood borne pathogens with required safety protocols; ability to multitask; regular and predictable attendance; overall dexterity including reaching and manipulating small objects.
- Physical Demand Level: Light. Occasional lifting 11-20 lbs, frequent lifting or carrying 10 lbs, and ability to walk/stand/push/pull as required.
