ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Physical Therapy Assistant works under the supervision of a physical therapist and are responsible for keeping the treatment area clean and organized and preparing for each patient’s therapy. (25%)
  • Aid patients who need assistance moving to or from a treatment area and assist in clerical tasks, such as ordering supplies, scheduling treatment sessions, and filling out insurance forms. (10%)
  • Promptly and thoroughly documents and maintains clinical and administrative records regarding patient limitations/interventions, treatments, responses and progress to administered therapy as well as discharge summaries. (25%)
  • Records treatment encounters daily and completes EMR in accurate and timely manner. (20%)
  • Responsible for performing tasks that are within the scope of his/her educational preparation, knowledge, and permitted by the policies and procedures of GLBHC, and other local, state, and federal guidelines. (20%)

MARGINAL JOB DUTIES

  • Must be able to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocols.
  • Maintain best practices for equipment use and preventative maintenance.
  • Ensures work area, exam rooms and supplies are maintained.
  • Complies with GLBHC policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that patient records are maintained in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff and management.
  • Maintain regular clinic hours as approved by Manager.
  • Attends meetings as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Education:

    Graduate from an accredited physical therapy assistant program.
  • Licensure:
    State of Michigan Physical Therapy Assistant license and BLS Certification required. Maintain an active membership in the American Physical Therapy Association.
  • Experience:

    One year as a Physical Therapy Assistant or comparable internship.
  • Skills:

    Strong organizational skill and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of CPT and ICD coding procedures. Thorough knowledge of physical therapy principles and practices. Working knowledge of computer programs.
  • Interpersonal

    Skills:

    Able to communicate effectively with, and relate to a diverse population in a professional and courteous manner. Able to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments. Able to handle sensitive and confidential situations.     Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively. Must be able to act calmly and effectively in a busy or stressful situation. Ability to communicate effectively in the English language in person, by phone and in writing (bilingual preferred). Requires adherence to all policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for safety, attendance, punctuality and personal appearance.
  • Physical Effort:
    Must be able to sit, stand, and or walk for an entire workday. Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, and or twist while holding up to 50 lbs. often.
  • Hours of Work:
    Full-time or Part-Time;
    Flexible and varied. Regular attendance is an essential part of the job. Telecommuting is not available for this position.
  • Travel:
    Travel is generally not a requirement of this job. Local travel between GLBHC sites with use of personal vehicle possible. Reimbursement commensurate with corporate policy and IRS regulations.
