Position: ENDOSCOPY TECHNICIAN

Overview

The Endoscopy Technician works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse while carrying out designated skills that they have demonstrated competence in their Unit Specific Training Program. The Endoscopy Technician directly assists the physician during a procedure. They also work independently in preparing the room for the patient and ensure that all equipment and supplies are appropriate and in proper working condition for the scheduled procedure.

The Endoscopy Technician must know the specifics for the procedure scheduled as well as the physician conducting the procedure. This individual must possess personable skills to comfort patients during stressful situations. The individual must follow strict guidelines to maintain Infection Control. The Endoscopy Technician must demonstrate proper handling and care of equipment. The Endoscopy Technician demonstrates excellent customer service performance in their attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant Health Care and the commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation.

Responsibilities
  • Prioritizes/organizes delegated patient care assignments
  • Performs technical care skills as outlined in standards and procedures manual and as described by unit-specific competencies
  • Engages in reinforcement of patient/family teaching as delegated by the RN
  • Demonstrates proper patient transport and positioning.
  • Comforts patients during procedure
  • Identifies and communicates equipment failures to the RN
  • Demonstrates a positive personal approach and interaction with others
  • Assists with procedure as directed by the physician or RN
  • Maintains clean and safe patient area, i.e., cleans patient and staff refrigerators, wheel chairs, procedural room equipment, etc.
  • Maintains patient refrigerator stock
  • Obtains nutritional supply stock in a timely manner
  • Assists with wheel chair discharges
  • Documents refrigerator and blanket warmer temperatures according to unit policy
  • Handles equipment appropriately and returns equipment to proper place after use
  • Considers cost in using supplies for patient care. Maintains appropriate stock in procedural rooms and patient rooms.
  • Demonstrates ability to give care cooperatively with other patient care team members.
  • Actively participates in quality management and continuing education. Updates and maintains knowledge, skills, and competencies related to area of practice and age(s) of patient population.
  • Presents a clean and neat appearance according to the dress code for Surgical Services.
  • Encouraged to be proactive in seeking learning experiences.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service in all contacts with internal and external customers.

Qualifications Education/Experience
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • BLS
  • Previous experience in patient care area.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Basic understanding of anatomy and physiology.
  • Basic knowledge of Endoscopy practices and procedures.
  • Ability to use independent judgement
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Hand eye coordination
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
  • Ability to maintain punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Constant standing
  • Frequent lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Frequent walking, carrying, pushing, reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, tasting, smelling, near vision, midrange vision, far vision, depth perception, and color vision.
  • Occasional lifting up to 100 lbs.
  • Occasional sitting, lifting, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting, crawling, twisting, visual accommodation, and field of vision.
