Overview

The Staff CRNA is a member of the Anesthesia Care Team in a medically directed capacity, responsible for providing safe and appropriate anesthetics for a variety of patients. This position includes a $40,000 sign‑on bonus with a 2‑year commitment.

Responsibilities
  • In cooperation with the Anesthesiologist, develop an appropriate Anesthetic care plan based on the specific needs of the patient and surgeon.
  • Ensure that an appropriate pre‑Anesthetic evaluation of the patient has been performed, including proper Anesthetic Record documentation and informed consent.
  • Determine the drug, equipment, and supply needs for each Anesthetic and prepare accordingly.
  • Transport the patient from the POHA to the Surgical Suite.
  • Assist in proper positioning of the patient in the Surgical Suite and apply appropriate monitoring modalities.
  • Induce and maintain anesthesia at appropriate levels, manage any intra‑operative anesthetic needs, and seek consultation and assistance from the Anesthesiologist as appropriate.
  • Record complete and accurate data on the Anesthetic Record.
  • Terminate anesthesia when appropriate, assist with transport of the patient to the PACU area using appropriate monitoring and airway support adjuncts when required.
  • Provide an accurate, appropriate report to the nurse accepting post‑operative care of the patient.
  • Adhere to established safety precautions and controls to minimize hazards of electricity, fire, infection, or untoward reactions.
  • Inspect and test all anesthetic equipment before use for readiness, cleanliness, and working condition; remove and send faulty equipment for repair or discard if unusable.
  • Attend and participate in Department meetings.
  • Participate in Department Quality Assurance activities, including chart audits and Morbidity/Mortality Reviews.
  • Share new techniques and knowledge obtained at Continuing Education Programs with Department Staff.
  • Demonstrate effective communication methods and skills, using lines of authority appropriately.
  • Develop effective working relationships with all health care team members, patients, and families.
  • Remain flexible in staffing patterns and resolve staffing conflicts to meet the needs of the Department of Anesthesia and Surgical Services.
  • Demonstrate awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and unit function, and strive to manage situations in a reduced‑risk manner.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service by respecting and maintaining the basic human rights, personal dignity, and human relationships of peers, coworkers, and patients.
Qualifications
  • Education / Experience:
    • Graduate of approved BSN program.
    • Graduate of approved CRNA program.
    • Current State of Michigan RN license.
    • Current State of Michigan CRNA Specialty Certification.
    • Current NB CRNA Certification.
    • Current BLS/ACLS/PALS Certification.
  • Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
    • Utilize abilities learned in Anesthesia training program to provide safe, appropriate anesthetics to patients.
    • Able to perform multiple tasks concurrently, prioritize calmly and quickly in emergency situations.
    • Able to become proficient in reading/documenting in Electronic Medical Records.
    • Possess the manual dexterity to perform manipulative skills required in delivery of an anesthetic (e.g., intubation, airway maintenance, venous/arterial cannulation, operation of anesthetic equipment, patient positioning).
    • Able to function appropriately at any hour of the day/night on assigned/on‑call shifts.
Working Conditions / Physical Demands
  • Ability to maintain punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Constant lifting up to 10 lbs.
  • Constant sitting, reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, near vision, depth perception, visual accommodation, color vision, and field of vision.
  • Frequent standing, pushing, pulling, stooping, twisting, and midrange vision.
  • Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasional walking, lifting, carrying, balancing, kneeling, crouching, squatting, tasting, smelling, and far vision.
