Job Description

This position serves as the Lead of a teaching team in a classroom of preschool children. Responsibilities include planning and implementing a healthy, safe, and developmentally appropriate learning environment that promotes developmental gains toward kindergarten readiness skills, as defined by Head Start Program Performance Standards, the Head Start Child Development and Early Learning Framework, and Kindergarten Readiness Goals. The Lead Teacher acts as a model of excellence in behavior and actions with children, families, staff, and the community.

Additionally, this role involves serving as a social service referral contact and encouraging parent involvement. The position may be reassigned to various classrooms or centers as needed and may serve as a "program director" for child care licensing purposes.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelor's or advanced degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent coursework with preschool teaching experience.
• Willingness to obtain administrative training within six months.
• Knowledge of Head Start philosophy, early childhood education, and developmentally appropriate practices.
• Ability to obtain Basic First Aid and CPR certification and maintain it.
• Acceptable tuberculosis and drug screening results, a clear criminal background check, and an initial health exam post-offer.
• Preference given to current or former Head Start employees, students, and parents if qualified.
