Provide and preserve a safe and efficient transportation system for the public, respond to incidents that close roadways, and perform regular scheduled maintenance on roadways.

- Pavement care and preservation

- Signing and striping

Highway Operations Worker – Grade 14 (Entry level)
Learn and perform all basic tasks listed above. Salary $18.19 per hour.
Highway Operations Tech 1 – Grade 17 (Apprentice)
Trained to perform advanced duties and take lead responsibilities. Salary $20.46 per hour.
Highway Operations Tech 2 – Grade 18 (Intermediate)
Responsible for broader scope of operations and supervising subordinates. Salary $22.45 per hour.
Highway Operations Tech 3 – Grade 19 (Senior)
Full journey classification with high‑level operational duties and supervisory responsibilities. Salary $24.44 per hour.
Qualifications- 6 months roadway/highway experience for Highway Operations Worker
- 1 year experience for Highway Operations Tech 1
- 2 years experience for Highway Operations Tech 2
- 3 years experience for Highway Operations Tech 3
All applicants must obtain an Arizona Class “A” commercial driver’s license (CDL). For Highway Operations Worker, a CDL permit is required within 90 days of hire and a full CDL within 6 months. For Tech 1‑3, a CDL with manual or automatic transmission and a (N) tanker endorsement is required prior to the start date.
Pre‑Employment Requirements- Register with the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse
- Respond to emergency call‑outs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; must reach the maintenance yard within 30 minutes.
- Capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling 50 lbs.
- All newly hired State employees must complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E‑Verify).
