Nestled in the central part of southeastern Arizona’s Gila Valley, the City of Safford is a thriving rural Arizona city. With a population of just over ten thousand, it is the largest municipality in Graham County. Incorporated as a town in 1901 and becoming a city in 1955, Safford has become the major hub for southeastern Arizona. The City of Safford as an organization has multiple different departments and over 230 staff members, including full‑time employees, seasonal employees, volunteer firefighters and council members, to staff all the different positions at the City.
The City also provides all utilities for its residents and other residents in surrounding areas. In addition to the major utilities of gas, water, electric, sewer, and sanitation, the City has a landfill and airport that service the county.
The Pool Manager is responsible for the overall daily operation of the City swimming pool and its staff.
Distinguishing CharacteristicsThis position is distinguished from the next lower level by advanced knowledge, skills and independent judgment. This position reports to the Administrative Events Liaison as directed.

- Supervises the daily operation of the Safford Pool and ensures aquatics staff are efficient and competent.
- Monitor weather report to ensure safety of patrons.
- Counts and balances daily revenue and completes related documentation.
- Completes facility safety checks and ensures that all safety equipment is functioning and stored properly.
- Handles complaints made by the public in a diplomatic manner.
- Performs regular lifeguarding duties and cleaning tasks to meet all safety standards when necessary.
- Maintains, analyzes daily records and submits pertinent reports in respect to daily patron admissions and revenue, sanitary water conditions, accidents/incidents, rescues and assists, and first aid.
- Completes employee evaluations.
- Develops and maintains ongoing, in‑service trainings for all staff.
- Plans, directs and supervises both the staff and the volunteers in the conduct of special activities, such as Theme night or other similar activities.
- Participates in pre‑season staff meetings to review duties, skills, facility operations, and staff training.
- Conducts pre‑season and mid‑season skills testing of all aquatics staff.
- Keeps COS Management informed of pool closure, lightening, accidents or any other questionable situations.
- Notifies COS Grounds Maintenance Supervisor in case of sanitary/feces incidents, chlorine leaks, or chemical problems.
- Responsible for the collection, verification and delivery of time sheets for processing.
- Keeps accurate and up to date inventory of all supplies and equipment; makes purchases when needed.
- Ensures the pool area is kept clean and orderly, including office and lifeguard shack.
- Administer first aid to patrons when needed.
- Attend staff meetings and works with social and community groups.
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide seamless customer service.
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve and offer diversified aquatics programs for all ages in accordance with community needs.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
