Position OverviewThe Transporter Equipment Operator is a key player in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of rail vehicles within our facility. You'll operate and spot Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMT) and other equipment to relocate rail vehicles onsite and prepare and transload vehicles onto rail flat cars or tractor trailers for shipping.
What your day may look like:- Coordinate with production to facilitate the movement of rail vehicles within the facility.
- Perform a variety of tasks requiring knowledge of processes, procedures, operations, and equipment.
- Operates the Rail King to load and unload car shells and supports water testing for car shells and rail vehicles.
- Move rail vehicles between locations using specialized equipment such as Scheuerle Transporter and Econo-Lift.
- Assist in conducting water tests on car shells and rail vehicles using Track Mobile.
- Drive a five-ton truck to transport materials locally.
- Provide forklift support throughout the facility as required.
- Prepare rail vehicles for shipping, including prepping flat cars and loading vehicles onto trailers.
- Secure rail vehicles to flat cars using specialized tie-down methods and materials.
- Install bolsters on car bodies and bogies/dollies on vehicles as necessary.
- Unloading rail car shells by using lifting jacks, forklift and various equipment.
- Follow all safety policies, JSA procedure, and Risk Control Measures.
- Experience as a Heavy Equipment Operator in industries such as construction, drilling rig, oil or gas, logging, crane operations, or military motor T operations.
- Extensive knowledge of safety protocols related to heavy equipment operations.
- Ability to work effectively in outdoor environments and adverse weather conditions.
- Strong physical fitness, including the ability to walk long distances on uneven surfaces and lift heavy equipment.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Proficiency in using industrial tools related to heavy equipment operations.
Upon offer of employment, candidates will be subject to a background check and drug screen.
Physical Demands- Frequently walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Frequently required to climb stairs, steps, and ladders.
- Frequently required to work on elevated platforms.
- Occasionally lift and move at most 40 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and exposed to vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is consistently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is exposed to dust and fumes or airborne particles. Candidates should be willing to work in non-climate-controlled environments and inclement weather if required or if applicable.
