R Supervisor - Distribution (Open)

Location

Sacramento, CA (Plant) - Acetylene production & filling

Pay Range

$71,000 - $80,000

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Branch/Distribution Manager with daily delivery routes, purchase order requests, and processing necessary paperwork for cylinder movement at this location.
  • Work closely with the Branch/Distribution Manager to supervise and coordinate activities of CDL drivers engaged in loading and transporting compressed and liquid gas cylinders to customers or company locations.
  • Plan routes and schedules for drivers, vehicles, deliveries, and pick‑ups based on driver, company, and customer information.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, including safety and the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Create a safe work environment by contributing to zero preventable accidents and by continuous compliance with company safety rules, standard operating procedures, and governmental regulations required for the position.
  • Analyze and resolve work problems and assist drivers in solving work problems.
  • Assist the Branch Manager with monthly driver ride‑along sessions, providing coaching on Smith Safe Driving principles, DOT paperwork compliance, pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections, material handling, and customer service relations.
  • Participate in monthly safety meetings with drivers, interpret company policies to drivers, and enforce safety regulations.
  • Assist the Branch/Distribution Manager with processing cylinder orders for local routes and with monthly driver ride‑alongs.
  • Process delivery order tickets in the system.
  • Work closely with the Branch/Distribution Manager on efficiencies through cylinder utilization and customer replenishment orders.
  • Coordinate the flow of materials by conferring with supervisors of other departments.
  • Pull daily orders from the SAP system to create necessary routes for driver deliveries.
  • Create load sheets for production loaders to prepare trucks for on‑time delivery.
  • Maintain production data input and changes, cylinder movements, process special handling arrangements, and cost for customer invoicing.
  • Provide support for all DOT paperwork for accuracy and completeness before uploading to DOT files.
  • Communicate professionally, respectfully, and effectively at all levels in both oral and written forms.
  • Perform any reasonable work request that falls within the qualifications but is not specifically described.
Qualifications
  • High school degree or equivalent preferred, with two to three years of related experience and/or training or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least two years of experience working in a distribution logistics environment.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite.
  • Experience with SAP.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSA’s)
  • Knowledge of FMCSA/DOT rules/regulations is helpful.
  • Prior dispatch experience.
  • Prior experience supervising associates.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
