POSITION TITLE: Assistant Women’s Tennis Coach

JOB DUTIES:
This position reports to the Head Women’s Tennis Coach. Responsibilities of Assistant Coaches at Sacramento State may include, but are not limited to:
- Recruit academically and athletically qualified, full-time student-athletes to participate in the program.
- Plan, organize, and facilitate the ongoing development of practices, competitions, and athletic programming/activities to build a cohesive and competitive team.
- Teach and lead student-athletes, demonstrating ability to work with diverse, academically selective students.
- Promote student development activities, including team bonding and study programs, to support academic progress and graduation.
- Maintain knowledge of, and compliance with, NCAA, Conference, and CSU rules and regulations.
- Work schedule will include evenings and weekends.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution or two or more years of coaching experience.
- 1-2+ years’ coaching experience in the relevant sport.
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
- Ability to establish rapport and effective relationships with student-athletes, staff, faculty, and the community.
- Sound judgment, discretion, and confidentiality.
- Knowledge of sport-specific skills, strategies, and teaching progressions.
- Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record; completion of the university’s vehicle use agreement required before operating a vehicle on state business.
- Ability to work during normal hours, evenings, and weekends.
- Commitment to advancing diversity and gender equity in athletics.
- Ability to string racquets.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proven success in recruiting student-athletes capable of academic and athletic achievement at NCAA Division I level.
- Experience or knowledge of recruiting processes.
- Experience in racquet stringing.
- Over one year’s coaching experience at the collegiate level, specifically Division I.
OTHER SPECIFICS ABOUT THE POSITION:
This is a 12-month, FLSA exempt position with full health benefits, classified as Coaching Specialist. The position may be less than full-time, with hours varying based on departmental needs. It is non-tenured and renewable annually based on performance, budget, and program needs.
