Generator Service Technician
We are seeking a skilled Generator Service Technician to join our team and support the reliable, efficient operation of power generation equipment. In this role, you will perform maintenance, troubleshoot system issues, and complete repairs on a wide range of generator systems for both preventive and emergency service needs.
What You'll Do- Perform maintenance and repairs on generators and parallel systems (5‑5000 kW).
- Troubleshoot and repair Automatic Transfer Switches and switch gear (bypass isolation, closed transition, etc.).
- Service AC/DC circuits, replace components, and perform preventive maintenance.
- Conduct start‑up/commissioning of new generator systems (emergency standby, parallel, micro‑grid).
- Troubleshoot diesel and gaseous engines, including ignition components, injection systems, and valve adjustments.
- Perform load bank testing to verify compliance and proper operating conditions.
- Complete warranty repairs per manufacturer guidelines (Generac preferred).
- Assist other technicians with complex or multi‑person jobs.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Generac certification preferred.
- Prior experience as a Generator Technician, UPS Technician, Electrician’s Mate, or similar military electrical/power production role is a plus.
- Valid driver's license with an excellent driving record.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to document work, track time, and manage inventory.
- Comfortable traveling long distances and staying overnight as needed. National Power covers the cost of hotels and provides a meal allowance per company guidelines.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Chrome/Edge, Adobe PDF tools.
- Strong mechanical/electrical troubleshooting abilities.
- Commitment to safety, quality, customer service, and continuous learning.
- Work may occur in all weather conditions.
- Frequent exposure to loud, moving mechanical equipment.
- Lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
- Climbing ladders, working at heights, kneeling, crawling in tight spaces.
- Extended periods of driving and keyboard use.
- Good vision and color perception required.
- Must pass a criminal background check and pre‑employment drug screen.
- DOT physical and Motor Vehicle Report required.
- Training provided (may require travel to Milwaukee, WI).
