Job Overview

Jacobs is seeking to hire a full‑time Instrumentation and Controls Technician III based in San Marcos, CA
. This position performs the inspection, maintenance, modification, and repair of electrical systems and equipment control circuits including electrical, electronic, pneumatic systems, and signal devices for a large, state‑of‑the‑art potable water treatment plant.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop, install, modify and maintain process control and supervisory control systems; schedule and coordinate activities with other staff and ensure timely and accurate preventive maintenance.
  • Test, troubleshoot, calibrate, program, and perform preventive maintenance on a variety of complex electrical and electronic instruments and devices including soft‑start/hard‑start motor controls, variable frequency drives, networking equipment, and instrumentation systems.
  • Install, maintain, repair and calibrate a wide variety of electronic recording and indicating instruments such as differential pressure flow meters, sonic flow meters, pressure and temperature recorders, signal conversion modules, level sensing devices, and valve actuator controllers.
  • Repair and replace defective electrical and electronic parts in motors, controllers, conductors, switches and other industrial electrical devices; make additions, extensions and modifications in electrical systems; install, maintain and repair electromechanical, electronic and electrical components.
  • Install conduits, conductors, wires, pull boxes, switchboards, controllers and switches required in adding, extending or altering electrical systems; install motors, controls, transformers and generators.
  • Install, troubleshoot, update and repair equipment for fiber‑optic communication systems, IP‑based networked camera systems and office telephone extension wiring, devices, and termination equipment.
  • Disconnect electrical sources, approve lockout/tagout procedures to block electrical sources; reconnect and operate equipment for maintenance purposes.
  • Interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, plans and technical documents.
  • Maintain records associated with all electrical repairs and modifications.
  • Recommend control system modifications with documented justification to reduce operating and repair costs.
  • Establish and enforce uniform electrical repair safety procedures at plant site.
  • Modify as‑built electrical drawings based on system modifications and update all electrical component equipment history files.
  • Create work orders to perform daily tasks using MAXIMO CMMS software package and track work performed and inventory used per job.
  • Configure new computers for domain registration and install necessary software packages for PLC programming and HMI/SCADA monitoring and control.
  • Consult with vendors and contractors regarding new construction and equipment installations related to electrical or electronic instrumentation systems.
  • May perform duties of a plant mechanic under supervision of the maintenance department lead.
  • Respond to emergency situations as necessary, including after normal working hours.
Requirements
  • Valid California Driver’s License.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Four years of experience with the maintenance, repair and calibration of electrical and electronic control systems.
  • Knowledge of industrial automation and control systems including SCADA, PLCs and motor controls.
  • Knowledge of single and three‑phase AC and DC electrical power systems.
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, equipment and instruments used in the maintenance, repair and calibration of electrical and electronic control systems.
  • Knowledge of networking schemes and understanding of IP network architectures.
  • Knowledge of best practices of an effective control system preventive maintenance program.
  • Knowledge of electrical and electronic shop procedures, practices and mathematics.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and regulations pertaining to the work.
  • Knowledge of Windows‑based computers, computer hardware and common business applications related to the work.
