As a Directional Drill Operator/Locator Foreman

Responsibilities
  • Operate horizontal directional drill rigs to install underground telecommunications cable conduit, including fiber optic cable.
  • Ensure the safety of the public and other utilities underground facilities.
  • Perform duties according to prescribed safety procedures and use appropriate safety equipment.
  • Set up and clean up work sites, including traffic and pedestrian control.
  • Read utility locates and coordinate day lighting of facilities.
  • Ensure all applicable permits and locates are complete and on‑site.
  • Inspect ongoing work to ensure workmanship conforms to specifications.
  • Operate construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
  • Level earth to final grade specifications.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment, including trucks, as directed and certified.
  • Perform proper maintenance by greasing, oiling, and making minor repairs on equipment.
  • Lead teams in the field effectively as needed and directed by supervisor.
Qualifications
  • Safety is a part of your day to day.
  • Track record of completing work with a high level of quality.
  • Ability to solve hard problems with a hands‑on approach.
  • Looking for long‑term projects.
  • Enjoy getting your hands dirty with your team.
  • 3 years of horizontal directional drill experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must obtain a CDL class "A" driver’s license within 30 days of employment.
  • Experienced with different size Vermeer or Ditch Witch units and various brands of locating equipment.
  • Working experience in underground construction and fiber builds.
  • Knowledge of City, County, and State clearance codes and related regulations.
  • Ability to read and understand maps, drawings, and diagrams for the project build process.
  • Willing to work outdoors in all types of weather and work overtime as required.
Compensation
  • Hourly rate: $35–$40, based on experience.
  • Overtime pay at 1.5 times the regular hourly rate for hours worked over 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a workweek, per California labor laws.
  • Paid rest periods and unpaid meal breaks in accordance with California labor laws.
  • At‑will employment.
  • Full‑time schedule; hours vary based on project needs.
