Senior Botanist On-Call

Sacramento, San Francisco & Northern CA

ICF is seeking a Senior On-Call Botanist to support projects located throughout Sacramento, San Francisco Bay Area and Northern CA.

About On-Call Employment with ICF

Given the seasonal or project-specific nature of our environmental work, ICF often hires environmental professionals as “On-Call” employees. On-Call employees are scheduled for work hours as they become available (we usually schedule work hours a few weeks ahead of time), and each on-call employee is free to accept or refuse the hours assigned to them in a given week.

What You Will Do

  • Conduct small to large-scale field surveys for vegetation mapping, wetland delineation, and rare plants.
  • Collect and synthesize data in the field.
  • Maintain close communication with project manager and co-workers.
  • Work alone or in groups; direct a small to large number of individuals in the field.
  • Walk on uneven and sometimes steep terrain in a variety of plant communities and landforms. On occasion, ability to excavate, using hand tools, soil pits to a depth of 18 inches. Ability to conduct field surveys wearing a backpack or carry up to 20 pounds of gear during field surveys.

What You Must Have

  • BS in Botany, Biology, or Ecology, MS or higher preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience conducting botanical surveys and wetland delineations.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check.

What We’d Like You to Have

  • MS in Botany, Biology, or Ecology.
  • California Rapid Assessment Method (CRAM) trained.
  • Knowledge of special-status plant species and wetland guidance and regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of California flora and taxonomy.
  • Experience using dichotomous keys and applying federal, state, and local agency guidelines to identify plant specimens, vegetation communities, and wetland types.
  • Construction monitoring experience.
  • Experience managing or leading staff in biological or wetland projects.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities, including ability to identify existing or potential problems and recommend solutions.
  • Team player with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to be flexible to handle multiple priorities and to work limited overtime as necessary.
  • Familiarity with GPS mapping technology.

Pay Range - The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is: $73,403.00 - $ Sacramento, CA (CA82).
