Overview
Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, the Meal Prep Coordinator – Home Delivered Meals is responsible for supporting the daily preparation, packing, and coordination of meals for the Home Delivered Meals (HDM) program. This position plays a critical role in ensuring meals are prepared accurately, safely, and on schedule to meet the needs of program participants. The Meal Prep Coordinator works collaboratively with operations staff, drivers, and volunteers to support efficient meal preparation and distribution while maintaining compliance with food safety regulations and Meals on Wheels Sacramento County (MoWSC) policies.
This position also serves as a fill-in meal delivery driver when needed. This is a non-exempt (hourly) position. Work schedule may vary based on operational needs and may include early morning hours.
Job Responsibilities
- Assists with the preparation of hot, chilled, or frozen meals for Home Delivered Meal routes.
- Coordinates daily meal packing to ensure accuracy in meal counts, dietary needs, and route assignments.
- Labels, stores, and organizes meals per established procedures and food safety standards.
- Monitors and records food temperatures to ensure compliance with the California Retail Food Code and internal food safety policies.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of kitchen work spaces, equipment, and storage areas.
- Assists with inventory tracking, supplies, and kitchen equipment.
- Supports kitchen operations during peak distribution times to maintain meal schedule.
- Assists with loading meals for delivery routes as needed.
- Works with operations staff, drivers, volunteers to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Follows all food handling, sanitation, and safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Reports equipment issues, food safety concerns, or operational challenges to supervisory staff promptly.
- Demonstrates professionalism and provides excellent customer service to staff and volunteers.
- Demonstrates compliance with all MoWSC policies, procedures, and standards.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience in food preparation, food service, or kitchen operations preferred.
- Experience working in a nonprofit, healthcare, or senior services environment preferred.
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and safe food handling practices.
- Serv Safe Certification preferred; successful completion of Serv Safe food handling certification within 30 days of hire required.
- Must be able to read, write, follow written and verbal instructions in English; bilingual a plus!
- Ability to use GPS mapping and read driving directions.
- Compliance with OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act) regulations is required.
