Position OverviewThe Quality Control Manager (QCM) is responsible for implementing and managing the QC program in collaboration with the project superintendent. They coordinate the activities of multiple QC engineers on one or more projects, work closely with the PM and PS to resolve QC issues, and participate in regional efforts to promote quality control. This is a safety‑sensitive position.
Qualifications- A 4‑year degree in civil or structural engineering, architecture or construction management, or similar experience in a related position.
- Minimum of 5‑7 years’ experience on large commercial construction projects.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Strong communication skills.
- Computer software – Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel‑based templates, Prolog, Primavera and AutoCAD.
- Participate in the startup and implementation of the six‑step quality control/safety process, including the site‑specific quality program, quality control plan, quality process log, test register and quality point files; lead the weekly QC meetings.
- Assist with the development of preparatory meeting agendas and participate in preparatory meetings prior to the start of each definable feature of work; review and maintain the project quality process log (QPL).
- Interface directly with owners’ quality assurance and management on all quality‑related issues.
- Review initial and follow‑up inspection reports, punch‑list items and close‑in inspection results.
- Be fully aware of the contract, plans, specifications and applicable codes; submit and review RFIs to ensure changes are implemented in the field.
- Receive trade partner test and inspection requests and produce a coordinated test and inspection schedule.
- Document and submit a daily report of quality control activity.
- Audit trade partner quality control procedures and report chronic problems with trade partner work or quality control programs to upper management.
- Participate in the selection process for outside testing contractors and verify adherence to testing standards, frequency and documentation; coordinate third‑party testing agency activities with Hensel Phelps and trade partners; coordinate and schedule source inspections.
- Evaluate and develop QC personnel.
Moderate work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly to move objects. The position requires walking, kneeling, sitting, crouching, reaching, stooping, reading/seeing, speaking, pushing, pulling, lifting, standing, typing, operating computers, communicating stakeholders, and reading blueprints. It also involves intermittent climbing, balancing, stooping, visual acuity, occasional exposure to high/low temperatures and noisy environments.
