Job Summary
The incumbent is responsible for sustaining an environment of intrinsic goodwill for the practice while providing optimum services to patients. The incumbent provides licensed medical support to medical care providers as a vocational nurse for the department/clinical team to which it is assigned. The incumbent is supervised by a licensed physician or registered nurse when performing duties within the vocational nurse scope of practice.
The incumbent works under the direction of clinic/department management for administrative purposes, including customer service, professional behavior and development, assignment and scheduling of work, and performance of job functions not requiring supervision by a licensed independent practitioner (LIP).

Minimum Qualifications- California Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)
- American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
- Must provide proof of valid Intravenous (IV) Therapy and Blood Withdrawal certification
- Must provide documentation of graduation from an accredited school of vocational nursing, or completion of education and experience as a corpsman in the United States military
- Minimum of two (2) years of Licensed Vocational Nurse experience
- Ability to pass the safe to practice pharmacology exam
- Skills within the scope of practice of a licensed vocational nurse
- Knowledge of common medications, indications, dosage ranges, dilutions, side effects, and potential toxicity, and typical allergic reactions
- Knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology, with ability to recognize the abnormal
- Observation skills to detect changes in patient’s condition and potential adverse reactions to treatments
- Knowledge of medical terminology sufficient to communicate effectively with patients, health care providers and insurance company representatives regarding appointments, services, procedures, authorizations and referrals
- Ability to accurately interpret physician orders to ensure complete and up-to-date patient records
- Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all co-workers; to consistently interact with patients and other members of the public with patience, courtesy and professionalism, both in person and on the telephone; and to effectively respond to individuals who may be angry or upset
- Problem solving skills to independently define a problem, identify resources, create viable solutions and implement resolution
- Decision making skills to independently exercise delegated authority and seek assistance when limits are reached
- Organizing skills to establish priorities for own work and adapt to changes in a high-volume clinical setting
- Ability to efficiently use computer system applications; typing skills sufficient for timely and accurate input
- Writing skills with proper English grammar, spelling and punctuation for clear routine correspondence
- Knowledge of clinic practices and protocols related to medical records, medical assisting, nursing support, and related procedures
- Knowledge of laws, regulations, and guidelines governing medical records; confidentiality, privacy, and HIPAA
- Basic knowledge of health care insurance systems (Medicare, Medi-Cal, HMO, PPO, fee-for-service, workers’ compensation) to obtain and track authorizations, make referrals, coordinate hospital admissions, and explain provisions to patients
