Behavioral Health Admission Nurse; RN​/shifts

Responsibilities

Sierra Vista Hospital is seeking Behavioral Health Admission Nurse (Full-Time) for the Intake Department. The Behavioral Health Admissions Nurse supports the department using established nursing protocol for all possible admissions. Responsibilities include answering inquiry calls, scheduling assessments, performing psychiatric assessments, providing clinical summaries and recommendations based on findings, consulting with the psychiatrist, and referring individuals to the appropriate lowest level of care based on the psychiatrist's orders.

RNs may take telephone orders from admitting MDs, perform initial medical screening through referring ERs, and may be responsible for initial insurance pre-authorization of admitted patients within 24 hours. All staff assist in maintaining an organized and clean department by auditing and data entry of referrals, restocking documents and forms, and filing as time permits. Cross-functional training may be required to learn skills that allow the license to work seamlessly throughout the facility.

• Full-time 12-hour shifts
• 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (NOC)
• Required to work Sundays

Education:

• Minimum associate degree from an accredited program and an RN license, required.

Experience:

• A minimum of six (6) months direct medical and clinical experience as a licensed RN required, preferably in a psychiatric or mental health setting, with direct experience in patient assessment, family motivation, treatment planning, and communication with external review organizations preferred. ER experience with psychiatric patients with demonstrated knowledge acceptable.

Licensure: RN.

Additional Requirements: CPR Certification required. Complete knowledge of crisis intervention techniques. May be required to work overtime and flexible hours.

The Sierra Vista Hospital location, a 171-bed psychiatric care facility located in south Sacramento, is a full-service mental health facility and a center of support for patients and their families. Since 1986, we have offered our clinical expertise to those suffering from emotional, behavioral and addiction problems.
