Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring recent Trauma Level I experience and a current California RN license.
Responsibilities- Work in an Emergency Department with both adult and pediatric patient populations at a high-volume, Level I Trauma Center
- Care for trauma, sepsis, stroke, psychiatric, and homeless patient populations
- Assignment includes areas such as Observational Holding, MS Tele Psych Holding, Rapid Care, and ED-ICU
- May be assigned to patients with PCA pumps, though staff manage the pumps
- No assignment to resuscitation room, pediatric ED, or triage
- Uses Cerner EMR; experience required
- Evening shifts (3x12 hours, 15:00-03:00)
- Floating between ED pods and rapid care areas may be required
- Local candidates accepted at the same rate
- Responsibilities include rapid patient assessments, nurse protocols, and providing care across all designated ED areas
- RTO must be requested and approved prior to assignment; no RTO allowed in the first 2 weeks of assignment
- Blocked or self-scheduling is not permitted
- Return staff policy requires a 1-year gap before returning as a traveler
- Facility is a Magnet designated hospital
- Completion of 12 hours of non-billable online modules required before start
- Scrub requirements and parking details will be provided upon assignment
- First-time travelers are considered if additional experience requirements are met
- Active CA RN license required at the time of consideration
- Minimum 1 year of recent Emergency Department experience required, with Level I Trauma experience mandatory
- For first-time travelers, at least 2 years of Emergency Department experience required
- ACLS, BLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications required
- BSN preferred
- CPI or MAB certification preferred
- Cerner EMR experience required
- Ability to start and maintain IVs
- Must pass EKG exam (up to 3 attempts allowed)
- References:
At least one supervisory reference from the past year in the specialty area required
