Job Summary
The Trauma Performance Improvement (PI) Nurse is a clinical resource in a multidisciplinary capacity throughout the continuum of care for adult and pediatric injured patients. The PI Nurse performs registrar, data collection, data analysis, and performance improvement activities for the injured patient and is responsible for the verification criterion as required by the American College of Surgeons. The Trauma PI Nurse works primarily as a clinical resource for staff nurses and physicians, facilitates problem solving for plan of care during Trauma Division rounds and collects and analyzes data specific to performance improvement projects and quality and safety initiatives.
The role includes staff education, mentorship, and leadership in trauma verification and quality improvement.

Minimum Qualifications- Possession of active California RN license
- American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
- Five (5) years of recent clinical experience in a primary Trauma unit, PACU working with trauma patients, or Emergency Department
- Experience with navigating the electronic medical record in the EPIC platform
- Demonstrated ability in assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care, taking into consideration protective interventions, development and physiologic characteristics specific to the patients
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
- Ability to utilize medical terminology appropriately
- Advanced knowledge of current trends in nursing
- Commitment to excellence in patient care
- Ability to adapt to change in a positive, professional, and productive manner
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Ability to demonstrate accountability and professionalism
- Advanced knowledge of legal implications in clinical practice and documentation
- Advanced knowledge of performance improvement and evidence-based practice

- Advanced ability to present recommendations
- Advanced ability to speak publicly in front of both clinical, administrative, and regulatory personnel
- Advanced ability to influence and collaborate with unit and hospital leadership across disciplines
- Advanced knowledge of clinical skills and patient care skills
- Advanced knowledge on development of action plans and implementation to include group dynamic management for task implementation
- Advanced ability to promote staff education related to quality measures and patient safety
- Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) or Trauma Nursing Care Course (TNCC) Certification
- BSN, MSN or other Administrative Master's Degree
- Experience in multiple environments: ED, Acute Care, ICU, Prehospital
- Experience in Trauma Performance Improvement or Quality Improvement projects or roles
- Extensive database data entry and/or management experience
- In-depth knowledge of Joint Commission or Accreditation for Healthcare Organization Standards and other regulatory agencies
- In-depth knowledge of American College of Surgeons verification process and criteria
- Advanced ability to perform data analysis of outcomes to identify trends and/or opportunities for improvement

Salary: $9,283.33 - $19,150.00 monthly; benefits include medical, dental, vision, paid time off, and retirement options. Detailed benefits information available on the UC Davis website.
