Job Summary

Clinical Nurse Educators are registered nurses who apply theory to practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field. They independently perform full responsibilities, possess broad job knowledge, analyze complex problems, and determine solutions.

The role includes ensuring optimal clinician knowledge and skills through education and training, serving as an instructor for entry or intermediate clinical nurse educators, and leading implementation of new programs.

Autonomous nursing care includes evaluating patient needs and providing appropriate nursing actions. The nurse practices autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance, exercising independent judgment within interdisciplinary approaches to patient care. The role collaborates with hospital Clinical Nurse Specialists and Nurse Educators to ensure cross pollination of knowledge across the continuum.

Provides direct patient care to a diversified patient population and participates in patient and staff education. Demonstrates leadership skills and accountability for own practices as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.

Minimum Qualifications
  • American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing.
  • Minimum of two (2) years Critical Care, Neuro ICU, or Emergency Department experience
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English and utilize medical terminology appropriately
  • Knowledge of current trends in nursing
  • Commitment to excellence in patient care
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates accountability and professionalism
  • Adapts to change in a positive, professional, and productive manner
  • Knowledge of legal implications in clinical practice and documentation
  • Knowledge of performance improvement and evidence-based practice
  • Basic computer skills
  • Demonstrated ability in assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care, considering protective interventions, developmental and physiological characteristics specific to patients.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Specialty certification (CCRN, CEN, etc.)
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Five (5) years of experience in Critical Care, Neuro ICU, Emergency Department experience.
  • Experience in teaching nursing content.
