Position: Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Ambulatory Clinic RN (CLIN NURSE 2)

Job Summary

The CN identifies and implements nursing interventions and evaluates results for a wide variety of patient populations, directs and acts as a resource to other members of the nursing team as assigned, and promotes compliance and support for policies. The primary responsibilities for this position consist of providing total, comprehensive, continuous and patient centered care which includes: assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care;

delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties; and adhering to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state and local regulations.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction
  • American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • At least three (3) years of recent RN experience in ambulatory care
  • Recent 1-year telephonic triage experience.
  • At least one (1) year Intrathecal pump experience
  • At least (2) years RN Case Management experience
  • At least two (2) years' experience with rehabilitation, neuromuscular disease, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Ability to utilize medical terminology appropriately.
  • Knowledge of current trends in nursing.

  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates accountability and professionalism.
  • Adapts to change in a positive, professional and productive manner.
  • Knowledge of legal implications in clinical practice and documentation.

  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care, taking into consideration protective interventions, developmental (behavioral and physical) and physiological characteristics specific to the patients.
  • Mastery of relational competencies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ambulatory Care Nursing Certification (AMB-BC™)
  • BSN preferred
  • Experience with muscular spasticity management/treatment
  • Recent experience with maintaining, refilling and troubleshooting intrathecal baclofen pumps
  • Prior authorization for medications and durable medical equipment.

The mission of the University of California Davis Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) is to improve the health, function, and quality of life of individuals with acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, brain and spinal cord insults, and neuromuscular disorders.

Department Specific Job Scope

Spasticity Management Program includes meeting the needs of patients with implanted intrathecal drug delivery devices through comprehensive patient assessments, nursing interventions, pump refills, dose adjustments and patient education. Nursing care is reviewed and adapted accordingly to facilitate mutually agreed upon goals; critical thinking is key to success with the needs of patients and families. Spasticity management with the use of toxin delivery via injections, working through a team‑approach method, teaching closely with the MD.

Follows policies, procedures, and standards of care guided by the nursing process and nurse practice standards.
