announcement!: beginning january 1, 2026, all court-ordered community service hours will not be approved. Please be aware of this disclaimer before you volunteer! Exceptions of any kind will be non-negotiable regarding this matter.
south sacramento christian center is still actively distributing food every saturday, and we're seeking volunteers to help us prepare groceries. If you are interested in helping in any of the areas listed below, please look at the task descriptions and choose from any of the dates and times that work best for you. Be sure to leave your contact information so someone can respond to your inquiry.

as a volunteer in the food distribution center, your duties on fridays will include:
- assembling bags (or boxes) of groceries
- light lifting (up to 10 lbs)
- cleanup (sweeping, cleaning/sanitizing frequently used areas)
- recycling (cardboard boxes)
you may be asked to assist in any of the areas mentioned during your shift, so flexibility is preferred.
on saturday morning, you may be asked to assist with:
- controlling the flow of traffic in the drive‑thru
- putting groceries in people's cars for them when they pull up
- making more grocery bags (or boxes)
- resupplying/runner (keeping the drive‑thru stocked with inventory)
calling all students (ages 12 & up) if you have school-related community service to complete, we can help! Please bring all necessary documents with you when you come to volunteer.
Note:
school-related only! (college prep and job-related community service are acceptable) (updated 11/24/2025)
stay healthy: if you feel ill or under the weather, we kindly ask that you reconsider volunteering and stay home. But feel free to contact us again once you are feeling better.
important! due to the stay-home orders being lifted, we no longer provide delivery service, and we are no longer recruiting delivery drivers (updated 09/24/2022)
caution! we encourage you to please leave small children at home when you come to volunteer. During the giveaway, we have many moving parts and heavy equipment on the premises. Our age range for kids to volunteer is ages 12 and up. (updated january 28, 2024)
