Job Description & DutiesAs an Environmental Program Manager I (Supervisory) you will have the opportunity to:
- Manage and supervise subordinate senior and supervisory engineers, scientists, and administrative staff responsible for the evaluation and cleanup of hazardous waste contaminated properties.
- Ensure the quality and timeliness of legacy landfill and other projects including activities such as operation and maintenance, environmental investigation and remediation, resolution of disagreements with Responsible Parties regarding critical scientific issues, and successful recovery of costs associated with site investigation and remedial actions.
- Ensure that SMRP decisions are technically sound, innovative, consistent with DTSC goals and procedures, and protective of public health and the environment.
- Provide staff with support, expertise, resources, and training to make appropriate project decisions in an effective and efficient manner.
- Advise and consult with the Division Chiefs, Deputy Director, and Director with respect to policy issues associated with SMRP and respond to requests from CalEPA, the Governor’s Office, the Legislature, environmental and related stakeholder groups, and public regarding cleanup issues.
- Plan, organize, direct, and provide managerial reviews of the work performed in the Legacy Landfills Branch.
- Experience with site investigation and cleanup of contaminated properties.
- Experience working on complex hazardous waste landfill projects.
- Experience with landfill gas and leachate.
- Experience managing/mentoring professional staff or contractors.
- Experience with budgeting, planning, tracking and scheduling projects.
- Experience working on military facilities.
- Experience interacting with government agencies.
- Experience working with internal and external stakeholders and holding public meetings.
