Job Description And Duties If you’re a motivated paralegal who enjoys working with others in a team environment, the California Department of Justice, Employment Law Section is looking for you!
Housed within our Division of Civil Law, our Employment Law Section defends state agencies in employment lawsuits, conducts workplace investigations for state agencies, and handles various types of administrative law matters. We are looking for qualified, committed paralegals to assist deputy attorneys general in state and federal court as well as in administrative hearings. As a valued member of our legal team, your paralegal duties would include:
Responsibilities- Performing a variety of discovery-related tasks including drafting/reviewing responses to propounded discovery such as interrogatories, requests for admissions and production of documents, organizing documents produced during discovery
- Summarizing and categorizing deposition and interview transcripts and records
- Preparing subpoenas, and preparing public records act requests, among other things
- Researching cases which may include social media research, legal research and other research through online tools such as Lexis and Westlaw
- Working regularly with a variety of document management programs including Pro Law, Relativity, Text Map, and others
- Working cooperatively with client IT representatives to gather electronic records and data and with the Department’s electronic discovery unit to process and organize that data
The Legal Analyst may be required to sit at a computer terminal while performing regular duties for approximately six to eight hours a day; may be required to travel to participate in trials and conduct witness interviews; and may be required to attend lengthy trials in other counties. The Legal Analyst must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
