A nationally recognized, multi-office law firm is seeking an experienced Labor & Employment Litigation Paralegal to support attorneys in its Northern California labor and employment practice. This role is ideal for a seasoned paralegal who thrives in fast-paced litigation, enjoys managing matters from inception through trial, and is comfortable working independently while collaborating closely with attorneys and practice support teams.
Position SummaryThe Paralegal will support a busy labor and employment litigation practice, handling complex matters involving state and federal employment laws. This position requires strong litigation experience, excellent judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
Paralegals are expected to bill approximately 1,500 hours annually to client matters (including approved pro bono and firm initiatives), maintain regular business hours, and provide occasional after-hours or weekend support as needed.
Key Responsibilities- Independently manage litigation matters from inception through resolution
- Anticipate attorney needs and proactively manage case workflows
- Perform comprehensive e-discovery tasks, including document review, red actions, and privilege log preparation
- Draft and assist with pleadings, discovery, subpoenas, declarations, and motion support
- Conduct legal research using platforms such as Westlaw, Hein Online, CEB, Rutter Guides, and other databases
- Cite-check, fact-check, proofread, and Shepardize legal documents
- Assist with depositions, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials
- Maintain case calendars and calculate critical filing and discovery deadlines
- Prepare trial materials including exhibit binders, witness lists, trial notebooks, and demonstratives
- Assist attorneys during trial, including use of trial presentation software
- Coordinate with vendors and internal teams on document production and litigation support projects
- Organize and maintain case files and litigation materials
- Prepare post-litigation filings such as judgments, cost memoranda, and fee motions
- Assist with appellate records, writs, and administrative proceedings when applicable
Experience should include substantial exposure to labor and employment matters such as:
- Wrongful termination
- Discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims
- Wage and hour disputes
- FEHA and related state and federal employment statutes
- Workplace safety and labor code issues
Required:
- Minimum 10 years of litigation paralegal experience
, ideally within labor & employment - Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program or qualifying experience under California law
- Strong knowledge of civil procedure, discovery rules, and court requirements
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common litigation technology platforms
- Exceptional organizational, research, and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines with accuracy and professionalism
- High level of discretion and respect for confidentiality
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
Preferred:
- Experience with appeals, writs, or administrative proceedings
- Prior experience mentoring or supervising junior paralegals
- Professional law firm setting
- Hybrid or optional remote flexibility, depending on location and experience
- Standard office equipment and litigation technology
The reasonably expected pay range for candidates with 10+ years of experience is $90,000–$95,000 annually (non-exempt). Final compensation will depend on experience and geographic location.
